- Possess a thorough understanding of and an ability to relate to youth.
- Three or more years of special education teaching experience.
- Capacity to make thoughtful decisions based on facts, knowledge and insight and the courage to stand by the results.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, small and large groups, by correspondence or oral expression.
- Ability to organize and plan effectively.
- Possess an ethical and professional attitude toward colleagues and the policies of the district.
- Facilitate the special services process from referral to placement.
- Conduct educational assessments as part of the evaluation process.
- Act as a resource to teachers and staff members with regard to the IEP process, generation of strategies for students and all other matters pertinent to special education.
- Assume a leadership role in the decision process among staff, parents and educational teams to ensure compliance with federal, state and local guidelines.
- Assist in the supervision of IEP development to ensure necessary documents are in compliance with federal, state and local guidelines.
- Assist the Director of Special Services in the data gathering process and completion of necessary state reports.
- Master of Education Degree with professional preparation in special education and knowledge of the special education process requirements
- State of Missouri Special Education Teacher Certification
